A Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is a licensed nursing assistant (CNA) with specialized training to safely administer oral, topical, and eye/ear drop medications in facilities under RN supervision. Candidates typically need a high school diploma/GED, a current CNA license.

Key Aspects of Becoming a Medication Aide:

  • Requirements: A current CNA license is required as a prerequisite. Candidates must also complete a state-approved Medication Aide Training Program (MATP).

  • Job Outlook:  Demand for this role is increasing due to the aging population.

  • Duration: The training typically takes several weeks (6) to complete, followed by a competency exam.
